DOLPHINS OF THE LLYN PENINSULA

The Llyn Peninsula forms the northern perimeter of Cardigan Bay and, like other parts of this extensive inlet, enjoys a resident population of Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops truncatus). On our “Shearwater” Coastal Cruises we have almost daily encounters with these wonderful animals.

Our regular encounters over the last few years have enabled the dolphins to become familiar with “Shearwater”. Dashing over at high speed to join us, they often appear at the side of the boat before we are even aware of their presence in the area. They seem to be particularly attracted to the ‘catamaran hull’ format of “Shearwater” with 3 and sometimes 4 of them nestling between the bows of the twin hulls, so obviously enjoying the ride on the considerable pressure wave that is produced. The following dolphin images were taken during the latest “Shearwater” cruising season.

Their reproduction without our express permission is not permitted.
